Error: amlabel: could not load slot "9": cannot determine first slot

When labeling tapes you get the following error:

amlabel: could not load slot "9": cannot determine first slot
amlabel: could not load slot "9": cannot determine first slot

One of the reasons why this could be happening is that your tapecycle parameter in amanda.conf is set too low:

tapecycle 8 tapes

Solution is to increase the tapecycle parameter in amanda.conf:

tapecycle 9 tapes
