  1. 1. Upgrading ZMC and Backup Server from 4.1.0.106 to 4.1.2.8        1.    Set Auto label to “Only if empty or I/O error” on Backup Where page (Applicable only for Tape backup sets)        2.    Uninstall the 4.1.0.106 Backup Server and ZMC binaries on both RPM and Debian based systems using the         commands,  #/opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-backup-pkg/uninstall # /opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-zmc-pkg/uninstall        3.    Copy 4.1.2.8 ZMC and backup server binaries on to respective servers and give executable permissions.  #chmod +x zmanda-zmc-4.1.2.8-x64.run #chmod +x zmanda-backup-server-4.1.2.8-x64.run        4.    Install the 4.1.2.8 ZMC and backup server binaries by running them with superuser permissions.   #./zmanda-zmc-4.1.2.8-x64.run #./zmanda-backup-server-4.1.2.8-x64.run  Note:         1.    Before uninstalling 4.1.0.106, it is mandatory to update auto label option to “Only if empty or I/O error” for all        the Tape backup sets.        2.    It is mandatory to upgrade both Backup Server and ZMC.

Upgrade paths: 

Customers shall follow the below upgrade paths depending on their current Zmanda version.

Upgrading ZMC and Backup Server from 4.1.0.106 to 4.1.2.8 

      1.    Set Auto label to “Only if empty or I/O error” on Backup Where page (Applicable only for Tape backup sets) 

      2.    Uninstall the 4.1.0.106 Backup Server and ZMC binaries on both RPM and Debian based systems using the         commands, 

                     #/opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-backup-pkg/uninstall
                     # /opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-zmc-pkg/uninstall 

      3.    Copy 4.1.2.8 ZMC and backup server binaries on to respective servers and give executable permissions. 

                     #chmod +x zmanda-zmc-4.1.2.8-x64.run
                     #chmod +x zmanda-backup-server-4.1.2.8-x64.run 

      4.    Install the 4.1.2.8 ZMC and backup server binaries by running them with superuser permissions.  

                     #./zmanda-zmc-4.1.2.8-x64.run
                     #./zmanda-backup-server-4.1.2.8-x64.run 

Note:  

      1.    Before uninstalling 4.1.0.106, it is mandatory to update auto label option to “Only if empty or I/O error” for all        the Tape backup sets. 

      2.    It is mandatory to upgrade both Backup Server and ZMC. 

 

Upgrading ZMC and Backup Server from 4.1.0.18 to 4.1.2.8 

      1.    Set Auto label to “Only if empty or I/O error” on Backup Where page (Applicable only for Tape backup sets) 

      2.    Uninstall the 4.1.0.18 Backup Server and ZMC binaries on both RPM and Debian based systems using the         commands, 

                     #/opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-backup-pkg/uninstall
                     # /opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-zmc-pkg/uninstall 

      3.    Copy 4.1.2.8 ZMC and backup server binaries on to respective servers and give executable permissions. 

                     #chmod +x zmanda-zmc-4.1.2.8-x64.run
                     #chmod +x zmanda-backup-server-4.1.2.8-x64.run 

      4.    Install the 4.1.2.8 ZMC and backup server binaries by running them with superuser permissions.  

                     #./zmanda-zmc-4.1.2.8-x64.run
                     #./zmanda-backup-server-4.1.2.8-x64.run 

Note:  

      1.    Before uninstalling 4.1.0.18, it is mandatory to update auto label option to “Only if empty or I/O error” for all        the Tape backup sets. 

      2.    It is mandatory to upgrade both Backup Server and ZMC. 

 

Upgrading from Amanda Enterprise 3.6 to 4.1.2.8 

 Please refer Migration Page for detailed steps. 

Fresh install - 4.1.2.8 [ ZMC and Backupserver ]

Please refer  Installation Guide for detailed steps to install 4.1.2.8. 

 

Upgrading ZMC and AE Server from 4.1 to 4.1.0.106

  1. Copy .am_passphrase file from /var/lib/amanda to preserve server encryption key. 
  2. Copy 4.1.0.106 ZMC and backup server patch file on to respective servers and give executable permissions 
    1. #chmod +x patch-zmc-4.1.0.106-x64.run 
    2. #chmod +x patch-backup-server-4.1.0.106-x64.run 
  3. Run 4.1.0.106 ZMC and backup server patch file on ZMC and AE server respectively with super user permissions. 
  4. For RPM Based Systems ( CentOS/RHEL/OEL/Fedora/Suse ) 

         1. Install the latest patch by executing the following commands.

# ./ patch-backup-server-4.1.0.106-x64.run

# ./ patch-zmc-4.1.0.106-x64.run

   5. For Debian Based Systems ( Ubuntu or Debian ) 

                 1. Uninstall the 4.1.0.18 Backup Server and ZMC binaries by executing the following commands.

#/opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-backup-pkg/uninstall 

#/opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-zmc-pkg/uninstall 

# apt remove amanda-enterprise-backup-server

# apt remove aee-backup-platform

2.Install the patch by executing the following commands. 

# ./patch-backup-server-4.1.0.106-x64.run

# ./ patch-zmc-4.1.0.106-x64.run

Note: It is mandatory to apply patch on both Backup Server and ZMC.

 

Upgrading ZMC and AE Server from 4.0.1 to 4.1             

 

  1. Copy .am_passphrase file from /var/lib/amanda to preserve server encryption key. 

  2. Uninstall 4.0.1 AE server using the uninstall script /opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-backup-pkg/uninstall and UI using /opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda-zmc-pkg/uninstall. 

  3. Make sure to install mt-st before installing the 4.1 binaries in order to do the tape setup. If mt-st is installed later, then make sure to run "setup-aee" utility as root user.   

  4. Install 4.1 server and UI binaries. Restart services manually if they are not running already. 

  5. Re-upload the license file. 

  6. Click Sync storage devices on the storages page to sync Tape storage devices of the previous version. 

Note : 

   1.    It is mandatory to upgrade both Server and ZMC to 4.1 binaries. 

 

  1. DO NOT try to upgrade to 4.1 from 4.0.0.1ga4 directly. Upgrade from 4.0.0.1ga4 to 4.0.1 and then to 4.1. 

Upgrading ZMC and AE Server from 4.0.0.1 to 4.0.1             

  1. DO NOT USE /opt/zmanda/amanda/zmanda*/uninstall script to uninstall server and UI if you wish to upgrade to 4.0.1 by preserving the data of 4.0.0.1ga4.
  2. Uninstall 4.0.0.1ga4 using the uninstall script user-scripts_zmanda-safe-uninstall-pre-4.0.1.sh
  3. Install 4.0.1 server and UI. Restart services manually if they are not running already.
  4. Re-upload the license file.

Note :

  1. Its a mandate to upgrade both Server and ZMC 4.0.0.1ga4 binaries.

  2. Click here to download the Uninstall script.
  3. User can download the Uninstall script by command on their Linux system “wget https://cdn.zmanda.com/downloads/Enterprise/Linux/4.0.1/user-scripts_zmanda-safe-uninstall-pre-4.0.1.sh” .

 

Upgrading from Amanda Enterprise 3.6 to 4.1

You have to migrate from Amanda Enterprise 3.6 to 4.1 version first and then upgrade to 4.1.0.106. Please refer Migration Page for detailed steps.
