Zmanda Cloud Backup 3.0.2 Release notes

Zmanda Cloud Backup 3.0.2 is the latest release of Zmanda Cloud Backup product.

Upgrading from Zmanda Cloud Backup earlier releases

ZCB 3.0.2 Early Access

  • Customers must un-install 3.0.2 early access software and install the released software by double clicking the setup.exe icon from the 3.0.2 archive. During the un-install process, please select yes to preserving configuration and data.

ZCB 3.0.1

  • Customers can upgrade to the new release by running setup.exe that is part of the 3.0.2 software zip archive.

ZCB 3.0/2.0.x

  • All backups created using ZCB 2.0.x can be restored using ZCB 3.0.2 software.
  • You will have un-install ZCB 2.0.x release and then install ZCB 3.0.2 software. It is not possible to upgrade directly to 3.0.2
  • There are few important changes in 3.0.2 that impact users upgrading from ZCB 2.0.3/3.0
    • ZCB 3.0.2 continues to S3 Enhanced Redundancy storage for existing backup sets. Only new backup sets created using ZCB 3.0.2 uses S3 cost-effective cloud storage.
    • ZCB incremental backups in 2.0.x were actually differential backups (backup level 1). Differential backups have all changes in the backup set data since last full backup. So, all reports about incremental backups made using ZCB 2.0.x will appear as Differential backups in ZCB 3.0.2 Reports page. The backups are still recoverable and no changes are made to actual backup images. ZCB 3.0.2 does not allow users to mix differential backups and incremental backups in a backup set.
    • ZCB 3.0.2 no longer uses Zmanda key container for storing ZCB encryption certificates. To recover encrypted backup archives created using ZCB 2.0.x to another machine, it is still necessary to import Zmanda key container and required encryption certificates on the target machine for restoration.
    • If you are performing SQL server backups, amandabackup user has to be added as a SQL user. Please see Getting Started documentation on the privileges required.

Known issues

  • Windows UAC (User Access Control) in Windows 7 and 2008 Server pop up windows appears when ZCB schedules are added/modified/deleted/read from the UI as shown below. Please click Yes to continue. This happens because ZCB runs with Administrator privileges to interact with Task scheduler.

ZCB-UAC.png

  • When backups are started from ZCB UI (not scheduled backups) and the user logs out, the backup fails. Use backup scheduler to perform backup/uploads.
