Project:Zmanda Recovery Manager for MySQL 3.4 > MySQL Backup agent for Symantec NetBackup

MySQL Backup agent for Symantec NetBackup

Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL can be used with Symantec NetBackup to backup MySQL databases. ZRM provides various backup and recovery methods for MySQL database and applications. NetBackup provides media manager for ZRM MySQL Backups. NetBackup can be used along with ZRM to do backup MySQL to tapes and other media. It can be used to consolidate all your backup of applications.

Zmanda Recovery Manager is configured using Zmanda Management Console (ZMC). Please see Zmanda Management Console documentation for pre-requisites, installation and configuration of MySQL backups.  All ZRM backup methods are supported with Symantec NetBackup option

Requirements

Following are list of requirements on the ZRM server that performs MySQL backups and acts as NetBackup client. You can use NetBackup backup server as the ZRM server also.

  • Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL 3.4 server running Linux RHEL/CentOS/SLES distribution or Solaris. The Linux distribution or Solaris OS must be supported by NetBackup Linux client.
  • Symantec NetBackup Linux or Solaris client 6.5 or 7.0.x or 7.1
  • Zmanda Recovery Manager 3.4/NetBackup option
  • Temporary storage disk space to stage ZRM backups before they are sent to the NetBackup media server.

Installation and Configuration

For installation of ZRM server, please see ZRM documentation. The installation and configuration of MySQL Backups for NetBackup are documented in the NetBackup/ZRM manual available in the Zmanda Network Downloads page.

There are two ways to configure ZRM and NetBackup together - Backup using NetBackup scheduler, Backup using ZRM scheduler.  Backup using ZRM scheduler supports all ZRM full/differential/incremental backup methods. Backup using NetBackup scheduler does not support MySQL Enterprise Backup/Xtrabackup chained differential backup method. All other backup methods are supported.

Monitoring and Reporting

ZRM backups can be monitored and are reported on the Zmanda Management Console.
